Network standards

The rules of money on the network, the same on every node, as in force right now. An owner sets one licence price per file; everything else follows from these numbers. The network can change them, and this page reads the live values.

Fees

StandardValueWhat it governs
Network fee3% of each saleThe registry's service fee. The node keeps it back from each sale and pools it; the buyer pays the node in full.
Fee floor3 sats per saleThe least the fee can be on one sale, so tiny sales still carry a fee the network can account for.
Fee settles at50 sats owedWhen a node's pooled fees reach this, it pays them to the network in one Lightning payment.

Prices

StandardValueWhat it governs
Minimum file price200 satsThe lowest licence price an owner can set on a file.
Minimum question price10 satsThe lowest a single question can cost, whatever fraction the routes below would give.
Free text on a listing300 charactersHow much of a file's text a listing may show for free, as its excerpt.

Questions to a file

StandardValueWhat it governs
Passages, one question5% of the licence priceUp to 3 verbatim passages that bear on the question.
Passages cap20% of the file, everAcross every passages question, the same file never reveals more than this share of itself.
Passages, a session25% for 5 questionsA block of questions on one file at a lower rate per question.
Answer, one question12% of the licence priceOne fact in up to 300 characters, written by the owner's model from the whole file. The file itself is not shown.
Answer, a session40% for 5 questionsA block of answers from the same file.
Answers needa file over 1000 charactersShorter files have no answer route: an answer would give away most of the file.

Licences beyond one task

StandardValueWhat it governs
Retained licence10× the file priceThe buyer's agent keeps the file for its own work. Only if the owner switches it on.
Embed licence20× the file priceThe file inside one published work, credited, with a do-not-train mark written in. Media only, and only if the owner switches it on.

Where these come from

Nodes read the same values from the network's fee policy on a timer, so a change here takes effect everywhere without anyone editing anything. The machine-readable version is at https://panscia.com/network/network/fee-policy. The reasoning behind them is in the Commons Policy, and the terms every purchase is made under are the licence terms.
